MP inaugurates facilities in Bidar Railway Station

All pending Railway development works have been put on fast-track, MP Bhagwant Khuba said in Bidar on Tuesday.

The Bidar–Kalaburgi Railway line will be completed by June 2016 while the Pit-line in Khanapur near Bidar will be completed by December this year, he said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a new platform and other facilities, in the Railway Station as part of the Passenger amenities.

“Nearly 70 per cent of the work on the Pit-line was over. Once it is completed, we will be able to run new trains from Bidar as the cleaning and servicing of trains can be done locally,” the MP said.

Ashish Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, said Bidar was being developed as a model station with a standard set of passenger amenities. “We have taken up extensive plantation in the empty space in the station.” He said works like improving the running room were in progress and concreting of platforms and watering of carriages were being planned.

Mr. Agarwal agreed to consider a request by former Rahim Khan, about running the Bidar-Hyderabad intercity train from Nampalli Station and not Secunderabad as is being done now.

Earlier, the Lok Sabha member inaugurated a new platform, additional shelters, an additional reservation counter, a ticket counter on the rear side of the station near Gandhi Gunj market, extension of the foot-over bridge, coach watering system, solar pump, solar lamps and LED bulbs, and other amenities built at a total of Rs 5 crore.

South Central Railway Gets Rs. 2,768 Cr for Infra: Report






Hyderabad: An amount of Rs. 2,768 crore has been sanctioned in the Railway Budget for the year 2015-16 towards infrastructure development in South Central Railway (SCR), 24 per cent more than last year, official sources said here on Thursday.

The total outlay earmarked for new lines, doubling bridges, road over bridges, traffic facilities and other specified works is Rs. 984.33 crore, which is 60 per cent higher as compared to Rs. 616 crore during the previous financial year, SCR General Manager P K Srivastava told reporters.

For new lines, the budgetary grant for 2015-16 is Rs. 511.6 crore, 23 per cent more than previous year, he said.

"For doubling works, the budgetary grant for 2015-16 is Rs.233 crore, 331.56 per cent more than previous year. For bridges, the budgetary grant for 2015-16 is Rs. 26.9 crore, which is 61 per cent more than previous year," Mr Srivastava said.

For road over bridges, the budgetary grant is Rs. 101.67 crore and for traffic facilities, the grant is Rs. 40.68 crore for the current financial year, he said.

In terms of budgetary allocations for important ongoing new line projects, Rs. 141 crore was allotted for the Peddapalli-Karimnagar-Nizamabad project and Rs. 100 crore for Mellacheruvu-Vishnupuram project, while Rs. 130 crore was allotted for Nandyal-Yerraguntla project which would help complete these three projects, Mr Srivastava said.

He said that Rs. 20 crore was allotted for the Manoharabad-Kothapalli project and Rs. 110 crores for the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti project,

while Rs. 35 crores was allotted for Gulbarga-Bidar project (in Karnataka), 

adding that Rs. 150 crore has been allotted for the Vijayawada-Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu line doubling and electrification works.

The new projects sanctioned for SCR in the Railway Budget 2015 include four doubling, three tripling and one new railway line project to a length of 1,197 km.

The total anticipated cost for the projects is Rs. 11,703 crore and the budgetary allocation is Rs. 267.59 crore, Mr Srivastava added.

First Bidar-Mumbai train to be flagged off today(10 Feb 2015)

Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, will flag off train no. 11075/11-76 LTT Mumbai-Bidar-LTT Mumbai express via Kalyan, Kurdwadi, Latur Road and Bhalki, the first train connecting Bidar to Mumbai, on Tuesday.

The Minister will flag off the new train via remote video link from New Delhi. On its inauguration, the train will run as a special train with the number 01075. It will leave LTT Mumbai at 3.30 p.m. on Tuesday and reach Bidar at 10.30 a.m. In the return direction, train no. 01076 will leave Bidar at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday and reach LTT Mumbai at 8.15 a.m. the next day.



En route, the inaugural services will stop at Thane, Kalyan, Lonavala, Pune, Kurduvadi, Usmanabad, Latur, Latur Road, Udgir, Kamalnagar and Bhalki stations. Regular services will start from February 17 and accordingly, train no. 11075 will leave LTT Mumbai at 12.05 p.m. on Feb. 17 (Tuesday) and reach Bidar at 4 a.m. the next day.

:ಬೀದರ್-ಕಲಬುರಗಿ ರೈಲು ಮಾರ್ಗ ಮುಂದಿನ ಒಂದು ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಎಂದು ಸಂಸದ ಭಗವಂತ ಖೂಬಾ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ ವ್ಯಕ್ತ ಪಡಿಸಿದರು. ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾನುವಾರ ಸುದ್ದಿಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅವರು, ಈ ರೈಲು ಮಾರ್ಗ ಪೂರ್ಣಗೊಂಡರೆ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗೆ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಹೊಸ ರೈಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಓಡಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಲಾತೂರ ಹೈದರಾಬಾದ್ ಎಕ್ಸ್‌ಪ್ರೆಸ್ ರೈಲು ಓಡಿಸಲು ಕ್ರಮ ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದರು. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಮಂತ್ರಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಸಡಕ ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 78 ಗ್ರಾಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ವರ್ಷ ರಸ್ತೆ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು. ಸಣ್ಣ ನೀರಾವರಿ ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಿಂದ 69 ಕಾಮಗಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಂಜೂರಾತಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.

ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಸರಕಾರದ ದೀನ ದಯಾಳ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಾಯರ ಗ್ರಾಮಜ್ಯೋತಿ ಯೋಜನೆಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಮನೆಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ರೈತರ ಪಂಪ್‌ಸೆಟ್‌ಗೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ನೀಡುವ ಗುರಿ ಹೊಂದಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಈ ಯೋಜನೆಯಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆ ಇದೆಯೋ ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ಪರಿವರ್ತಕ ಅಳವಡಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವಿದೆ. ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರಕಾರದ ಜೆಸ್ಕಾಂ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಿಂದ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಗೆ 400 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ಯೋಜನೆಯಿಂದ ಉತ್ತಮ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟದ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ನಿರುದ್ಯೋಗಿ ಯುವಕರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಕೊಡಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯ ಅಭಿವದ್ಧಿ ತರಬೇತಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಹಮ್ಮಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಪತ್ರಿಕಾಗೋಷ್ಠಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಜಿ ಸೈನಿಕ ಸಂಘದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಶಿವಾಜಿರಾವ ಜಾಧವ, ಕಿಶನರಾವ ಜಾಧವ, ಶಿವಕುಮಾರ ಘಂಟೆ, ಅಶೋಕ ವಾಲೆ ಇದ್ದರು.

Weekly train to Bidar gets halt in Pune

The city will get another weekly train to Bidar in Karnataka, with the railways announcing the schedule and route details. The Mumbai-Bidar train was announced in the railway budget presented in July this year, but the route had not been specified whether it would go via Aurangabad or Pune.

The Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) — Bidar train (number 11075) will leave every Tuesday at 12.05pm, and go via Pune, Latur and Osmanabad to reach Bidar on Wednesday at 4am. From Bidar, the train (11076) will leave on Wednesday at 7.30am, arrive Pune at 7.50pm, and reach LTT at 11.55pm. At present, the city is connected with Bidar with a tri-weekly train.

In the interim budget presented in February, the UPA-II government had announced three direct trains from Pune to Howrah (AC biweekly), Lucknow (weekly) and Gorakhpur (weekly). Three indirect train included Yeshwantpur-Jaipur (AC weekly), and weekly trains between Mumbai-Hubli (via Solapur, Bijapur), and between Mumbai and Chennai.

Bidar-Gulbarga Rly Line Delay Affecting Growth’

 The inordinate delay in the execution of the ongoing Gulbarga-Bidar railway line project is hampering economic development in Hyderabad-Karnataka region, said BJP leader and former chairman of the Hyderabad-Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Amaranath Patil.

Patil told Express that the `360 crore project needs to be completed on priority basis for the welfare of the residents of the region. He said that the H-K region is the largest cement manufacturing region in the country. He said, “Once the 120 km railway line is commissioned, the distance between Bangalore and New Delhi will be reduced by over 300 km.” The railway line will bind the region with the rest of the country, he said.

He said the railway line will open up windows of opportunities for the region in terms trade and commercial activities. He regretted that the railway line project was pending for more than a decade. Earlier the project was estimated to cost `360 crore but now the cost has escalated to `900 crore, he said.

He blamed lack of political will in the past as the main reason for the delay and said that despite the project being included under the state government’s cost sharing category with the Centre, the process of land acquisition is yet to be completed. Following the cost escalation, the state government and the Railways had to release additional grants of over `365 crore to expedite the project, he said. He said that the total requirement of land identified for the project was about 1,893 acres and so far about 1,731 acres was acquired.

Informing that he had taken up the matter with Infrastructure Minister Roshan Baig, he said, “He (Baig) promised to put the project on fast lane and also assured to release additional funds.” Congress leader Allam Prabhu Patil said that the work gained momentum when Mallikarjun Kharge was the union railway minister.

“He (Kharge) not only released additional funds but also took personal interest in monitoring the progress,” he said. Expressing confidence that Chief minister Siddaramaiah will take up the matter with Union Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda, he said, “If necessary strong public opinion will be mobilised to press for the early completion of the work.” He said that the project work from Bidar to Gulbarga border was complete and a passenger train had been flagged off between Bidar and Humnagad during Kharge’s tenure. He said delay in construction of a bridge across the backwater of Bennethore reservoir and tunnel works near Margutti are the major hurdles, he said.

Bidar-Humnabad Train details.

South Central Railway (SCR) will run six DEMU passenger special trains between Bidar and Humnabad on January 26.
In a press release here today, the SCR said

• Train 07009 Bidar-Humnabad DEMU passenger special will depart Bidar at 0500 hrs and arrive Humnabad at 0645 hrs on the same day

• Train 07023 Bidar-Humnabad DEMU passenger special will depart Bidar at 1330 hrs and arrive Humnabad at 1515 hrs on the same day

• Train 07011 Bidar-Humnabad DEMU passenger special will depart Bidar at 1800 hrs and arrive Humnabad at 1945 hrs on the same day

• Train 07010 Humnabad-Bidar DEMU passenger special will depart Humnabad at 0730 hrs and arrive Bidar at 0915 hrs on the same day.

• Train 07024 Humnabad-Bidar DEMU passenger special will depart Humnabad at 1530 hrs and arrive Bidar at 1715 hrs on the same day.

• Train 07012 Humnabad-Bidar DEMU passenger special will depart Humnabad at 2000 hrs and arrive Bidar at 2145 hrs on the same day,

enroute to Khanapur, Kanaji, Hallikhed and Nandagaon in both the directions.

'Will Build Pit Line in Khanapur'

Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge flagging off the Humanabad-Bidar DEMU train at Humanabad railway station on Sunday


A railway pit line will be constructed at Khanapur of Bhalki taluk in Bidar district at a cost of `10 crore and the project will be inaugurated in 15 days, said Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge.

He was speaking at the commissioning of the Khanapur-Humanabad new rail line and flagging off the Humanabad-Bidar Diesel Multiple Unit (DEMU) train at Humanabad railway station on Sunday.

“Due to the lack of a pit line, we could not run the Bidar-Yesvantpur train regularly. The regular service of the train will start by March-April,” he said.

The parliament has approved the proposal to set up a railway administrative office at Gulbarga, he said.

Kharge instructed South Central railway general Manager P K Shrivatsav to complete the remaining line between Humanabad and Gulbarga within two years. He said `200 crore was spent on the 37.20 km new railway line between Khanapur and Humanabad (part of the Bidar-Gulbarga rail line project) and `18 crore for the Bidar-Humanabad DEMU train. Bhalki railway station will be renovated at a cost of `50 lakh, he added.

“The 106.60 kilometre long new railway line between Bidar and Gulbarga was sanctioned at a cost of `369.70 crore. This is a 50:50 cost sharing project between the Ministry of Railways and the government of Karnataka. The total expenditure on the project was `397.61 crore by November 2013.

The revised cost of the project is estimated at around `839.83 crore and has been vetted by the Finance ministry, said Kharge.

Former chief minister and Bidar MP N Dharam Singh, Humanabad MLA Rajshekhar Patil and Bhalki MLA Eshwar Khandre also spoke.

MLC Basavaraj Patil Humanabad, Chincholi MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav, ZP president Santoshamma Pundalikappa Koudyal, South Central Railway General Manager Shrivatsav and other officials were present.

Addressing the large gathering at the function, Shri Mallikarjun Karge said that the 110 Km Bidar-Gulbarga new railway line are rapidly progressing and the laying of foundation stone for a Tunnel at Margutti to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 60/- Cr. would help expedite the project. o­nce completed, the Bidar-Gulbarga new railway line will fulfil the long cherished aspirations of the people of Bidar and Gulbarga Districts to have direct rail connection between these two prominent and historic cities of north Karnataka, he said.

While delivering his welcome address, Shri A.K. Mital, General Manager, SCR said that necessary rock and soil investigations were undertaken for the tunnel and agency for executing the work had also been finalised with a target to complete the tunnel with in 18 months. The Tunnel would have ballastless track and sufficient height to have electrified traction o­n the section in future as per need, he added.Other Public representatives also spoke o­n the occasion.

New train from Bidar to Bangalore

The Railway Ministry has approved a tri-weekly express train between Bidar and Yeshwantpur. The train will leave Bidar at 6.25 p.m. and reach Bangalore at 7.40 a.m. the next day. It will leave Bangalore at 7.15 p.m. and reach Bidar at 9.30 a.m. The train will stop at Zaheerabad, Vikharabad, Sedam, Malkhed Road, Chittapur, Yadgir, Raichur, Nalwar, Narayanpet Road, Mantralayam Road, Guntakal Junction, Dharmavaram Junction, Hindupur, Gouribidanur and Yalahanka. Officials of the South Central and South Western Railway Zone jointly prepared the timetable, said a release.

Soon, an overnight train from Bidar to Bangalore

Railways awaiting Ministry’s direction, says divisional manager

In all probability, Bidar will get an overnight train to Bangalore, senior railway officials said here on Friday.

“We are ready to run the train. If the Railway Ministry were to direct us to start the train, we can do it from tomorrow,” S.K. Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad division, South Central Railway, who inspected facilities at the Bidar Railway Station, told presspersons. The district administration had agreed to fulfil demands for some facilities, he said.

Members of his team indicated that the train could start running in the first week of September, though they would not specify a date.

It is also likely to run three times a week, at least initially. It could start between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the evening and reach Yeshwantpur between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. the next day. It would then leave Yeshwantpur between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the same evening to reach Bidar by 9 a.m.

The railways wanted an assured supply of around 50,000 litres of water for cleaning the train and filling its tanks every day. “We have promised them the supply. We have a high capacity overhead tank in Gandhi Gunj area behind the station and a six-inch pipeline that connects the tank with the water supply system in the station has already been laid, but has yet to be used. We will start pumping water in two days,” P.C. Jaffer, Deputy Commissioner, said.

According to Dr. Jaffer, the cleaning and filling of Bangalore train rakes would begin after the intercity express left for Hyderabad at 7 a.m.

The demand for an overnight train to Bangalore has been a long-pending one. The Nanded Express that connects the two cities now takes over 17 hours to complete its run. It leaves Bidar at 12.30 p.m. to reach Bangalore the next morning.

The Hyderabad-Bangalore Express, which covers roughly the same distance, does so in less than 11 hours.

Organisations such as the Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industries had demanded that the timing of the Nanded Express be changed so that it left Bidar at 6 p.m. K.H. Muniyappa, who visited Bidar last year as Minister of State for Railways, had said that it would be difficult, as the timing of several other trains would have to be changed to enable this.

Mallikarjun Kharge, Railway Minister, during a meeting in the Bidar Zilla Panchayat last month, had promised a new train between Bidar and Bangalore, if the timings of the Nanded Express could not be changed.

Gulbarga to get rail division HQ

Promising to improve the railway network of the state to bring it on par with national standards, railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge assured on Tuesday that he would see to it that the long pending demand of the region for a divisional railway headquarters was fulfilled soon.

"In addition to the Central, South Central and South Western Railway zones, efforts are being made to carve out a new zone," he told reporters. The proposed headquarters at Gulbarga would cover Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur, parts of Bijapur, besides Gulbarga.

While the state has three railway divisions for over 3,150 kms of railway tracks, Maharashtra has seven and Andhra Pradesh, six.

Kharge, who laid the foundation stone for doubling of the Gulbarga-Hotgi railway line and modernisation of the railway station here, announced that a pilot project connecting Naded with Yavatmal in Maharashtra would be launched soon as well.

As for the work on the doubling of the 98 km long Gulbarga-Hotgi line, which forms part of the Mumbai -Chennai trunk route, Kharge said the project was scheduled to be completed in 30 months at a cost of Rs 350 crore.

"This line forms part of the Daund-Gulbarga doubling project which is partly funded by ADB. The doubling will enable more freight-traffic to Mumbai and Delhi sections," he explained.

Bidar-Humnabad railway line to open on Oct 2

The Bidar-Humnabad railway line will become operational on Gandhi Jayanti day (October 2). The line is part of the Bidar-Gulbarga line, which is under construction.

Announcing this here on Thursday, at a felicitation function organised by the District Congress, Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said that a push pull train would run on the Bidar-Humnabad-Bidar route, as work on 60 km of the 105-km Bidar-Gulbarga line had been completed. The new line will benefit people of Bidar district immensely, he said.

For the early completion of this, he said, he had sanctioned an additional Rs 110 crore as against the provision of Rs 10 crore in this year’s budget. The project would be completed in three years. The line would have a 1.5 km-long tunnel at Margutti village and the foundation stone for the Rs 60-crore tunnel would be laid shortly.





Another major component is the construction of a railway bridge across the Bennithora rivulet at a cost of Rs 20 crore, which will also be started soon.

The other decisions announced by Kharge include converting the tri-weekly Solapur-Yeshwantpur Express into a daily train by August end or in the first week of September, commencement of electrification work on the Wadi-Gulbarga line and doubling of the Gulbarga-Hotgi line shortly, both with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank.

PM, Sonia promise funds

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had agreed to extend additional finance to the fund- starved Railways for its massive development and expansion plans, Kharge said.

The minister said he had already met the two leaders and convinced them of the need to extend additional finance from the general pool to the railways and both had agreed to oblige. He, however, could not specify the quantum of additional funds sought.

He said the Indian Railways was facing a huge burden of salaries to 14 lakh employees and pensions to 12 lakh retired employees. This came to Rs 80,000 crore per year, out of the Railway budget outlay of Rs 1.43 lakh crore. The Railways, with a line network of 60,000 km and carrying 2.18 crore people every day, is the third biggest railway network in the world, he said.

Timings of Nanded–Bangalore express will be modified, says Minister Kharge

M. Mallikarjun Kharge, Railway Minister, has said that the timings of the Nanded-Bangalore express will be modified to make it an overnight journey from Bidar to Bangalore.

“It may take some time. But it will be done,” Mr. Kharge said at a meeting to receive public grievances at the Bidar Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday.

He said that senior officials were studying “all possible ways to make this happen.”

“They are exploring options to speed up the train or reduce the speed of other trains. They will come up with a concrete proposal that is technically feasible. The change in timing will be implemented after obtaining clearance from the Railway Board and other bodies,” he said.

Officials were also considering the option of starting a new train from Bidar to Bangalore. If a pithole (where trains are washed and maintained) was set up in Bidar, then it would be easy to start new trains from there, he said.

New train

Deputy Commissioner P.C. Jaffer said that a new train could be introduced from Bidar via Vikharabad in Andhra Pradesh, Wadi and Raichur to Bangalore. He favoured a link between Bidar and Wadi that would provide a connection to the Solapur-Yehwantpur train. Another option would be to extend the Bangalore-Kachiguda train to Bidar, Dr. Jaffer said.

He said that land was available at the new Khanapur railway station on the outskirts of Bidar to lay an additional line or build a washing and maintenance centre.

Bidar-Gulbarga

Mr. Kharge said that Rs. 50 crore would be released, in addition to this year’s annual budgetary allocation of Rs. 10 crore, for the Bidar-Gulbarga line. The State government could then be asked to sanction the same amount.Works to be taken up

He said that work on the tunnel between Humnabad and Gulbarga would begin by September. “We are also planning to operate a push-pull train on the 50-km stretch between Bidar and Humnabad. The train will begin operations by September-end,” the Minister said, after consulting B.P. Pandey, General Manager of Secunderabad division.

Work on a railway bridge, near Kurikota village in Gulbarga district, would begin in due course, he added.

“A decision on setting up a divisional headquarters in Gulbarga will be taken only after studying its viability. Senior officials of three zones in Secunderabad, Mumbai and Hubli will have to study the situation and approve the proposal. We can take a decision on the issue only then,” he said.

No losses

Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Kharge said: “We are not getting as much revenue as we want. But, there are no losses.”

Commenting on the financial health of the Indian Railways, he said that some Railway Ministers had expressed certain concerns in the past, but there was nothing to be alarmed about.

“We may not be making huge profits. But, our revenues are decent enough. Of the Rs. 1.43 lakh crore that we earn every year, over Rs. 79,000 crore is spent on salaries and very little is left for development projects,” he said.

Fare revision

He described the fare revision in the last Railway budget as “nominal”.

“There have been proposals in the past to streamline the process of revising fares. We have examined proposals such as setting up the Railway Tariff Revision Authority,” he said.

He said that a proposal to set up the Railway Tariff Revision Authority had been forwarded to the Inter-Ministerial Group for consultations.

“Once it studies the proposal and the secretaries concerned give their opinions, then it will be referred to the Cabinet for a final decision. The decision to revise fares will be taken in consultation with the Railway Tariff Revision Authority once the mechanism is in place,” he said.

He reiterated that the Union government would release an additional Rs. 300 crore to take up railway projects in the State. N. Dharam Singh, MP; Sharan Prakash Patil, district in-charge Minister; and Latha Harkude, Zilla Panchayat president, were present.

Bidar-Bangalore overnight train may soon be a reality

There might be some light at the end of the tunnel for Bidar residents who have been demanding an overnight train from Bidar to Bangalore for over five decades now.

Officials of the South Central Railway (SCR) have agreed to consider this demand.

A delegation led by Basavaraj Patil Sedam, MP, met the Railway officials recently in this connection.

“We urged the authorities to consider three options: extend the Bangalore-Kacheguda train to Bidar, change the timings of the Nanded-Bangalore Express to make it an overnight train, or introduce a new train,” said B.G. Shetkar, president of the Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who was part of a delegation. “Devi Prasad Pande, general manager of SCR, agreed to consider our request and discuss the issue at the highest levels in the Ministry,” he added.
BENEFITS

The delegation impressed upon the officials that an express train would boost tourism and trade in this poverty-stricken district.

“We told them it would also improve governance as more Ministers and IAS officials above the level of secretary would visit Bidar often to conduct inspections and progress review meetings,” Mr. Shetkar said.
LONG JOURNEY

The only train that connects this backward district to the State capital takes nearly 18 hours for the journey.

“Civil society groups have been demanding an express train since the reorganisation of States in 1956. But, the pleas have not evoked any response,” said Khaji Arshed Ali, former MLC.

“Railways has always expressed its inability to have Bidar as the starting point for a train to Bangalore, as we don’t have a cleaning and maintenance centre for trains here,” Deputy Commissioner P.C. Jaffer said. “So, we have offered to provide them some land near the new suburban railway station in Khanapur on the outskirts of Bidar for setting up such a centre. Railway officials have agreed to consider this option too,” he added.
