Bidar,Raichur medical colleges get permanent recognition

Minister for Medical Education and Raichur district in-charge Sharan Prakash R. Patil on Friday said that the Union government and the Medical Council of India (MCI) have given permanent recognition to Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Dr. Patil was speaking to presspersons at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium here.

‘Good news’

“We have good news on the occasion of Rajyotsava that the Union government and the MCI have given permanent recognition to RIMS. The order has been issued.

“There will be no problem for students who graduated from RIMS for joining post-graduate courses under the government quota in medical colleges outside the State as per their CET ranking,” he said.

To a query about the alleged blocking of medical seats under government quota, the Minister said that he would look into the matter.

“I have asked the officer concerned to furnish a detailed report. I will take action once I get the report,” he said. Dr. Patil said that the district hospital would be shifted from the old building to a new one on RIMS campus in January.

BIMS students to go on indefinite strike

Students of Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) will launch an indefinite strike from Thursday demanding permanent registration number of the college, an official press note released from recognition committee of BIMS stated here on Wednesday.

Without this number, a graduating doctor neither apply for postgraduate examinations, nor can one practice outside the State. The first batch of 100 doctors graduated in 2012.

Bidar to get 750-bed teaching hospital



The State Cabinet’s decision to build a 750-bed teaching hospital for the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMs) fulfils a long-pending demand. This will ensure that the people of the district get access to quality healthcare and need not travel to Hyderabad or Solapur for tertiary care.

Bidar was not on the list of districts in which the State government had decided to open five new government medical colleges in 2005. Continued agitation by citizens’ groups, such as the Government Medical College Horata Samiti, forced the government to concede the demand.

The initial plans of the government had funds earmarked for the college building, but not for the teaching hospital. Students were tagged to the district government hospital. The construction of a new hospital was delayed so much so that the first batch of MBBS students passed out of the college without having ever worked in an exclusive teaching hospital. Another important proposal that was cleared was the construction of four bridges on the Manjra to enable easy movement between Bidar, Aurad, Basavakalyan and Bhalki taluks. “This was among our longest-pending demands. We welcome the Cabinet’s decision,” Ishwar Khandre, Bhalki MLA, said. He, however, demanded that the government start work on the bridges soon.

Another proposal, to develop ring roads around Bidar at a cost of Rs. 9 crore, was also approved. A team led by officials such as the district in-charge Secretary E.V. Ramana Reddy and Deputy Commissioner P.C. Jaffer had taken up the matter with the Ministers concerned and senior officials, sources said.

Protest

Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike protested in Bidar on Thursday against the decision not to release additional funds for the Basavakalyan Development Board. They urged the government to release Rs. 500 crore for the board.

BIMS ( Bidar institute of medical science) college await MCI nod

The newly appointed board of governors to the Medical Council of India will have to take a call on admission of fresh students in five medical colleges in Karnataka within the next 20 days.

The colleges whose future is in the hands of the board are Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences; S S Institute of Medical Sciences, Davanagere; Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences; Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli and Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, .                                                                                Click here to read full news
