Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Former Minister of Railways and
Shri Ravindra Gupta, GM/SCR Review Progress of Tunnel works on Bidar - Gulbarga New Rail Line Project


Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, South Central Railway along with Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble former Minister of Railways & Member of Parliament, Gulbarga reviewed the progress of the ongoing tunnel works at Margutti on the Bidar-Gulbarga New Railway Line Project today i.e., 16th October, 2016. Shri R.C. Boolchandani, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) and Other Officials of SCR were also present.

Shri Ravindra Gupta briefed Shri Mallikarjun Kharge on the status of the works, including the extent of completion and also plans drawn up for completing the remaining works. Later, Shri Ravindra Gupta along with Shri Mallikarjun Kharge visited the tunnel site near Margutti at Bidar end and inspected the ongoing works. They also reviewed the ongoing Road Over Bridge works going on above the tunnel. Shri Mallikarjun Kharge advised that railway shall ensure safety of road commuters in executing the bridge works..

Later, interacting with media Shri Ravindra Gupta, said that all measures have been taken and accorded due priority for completion of the tunnel works which is part of the Bidar – Gulbarga new railway line as planned. Of the 1.67 kms of tunnel works, only 80 meters of work is left to be finished, said the General Manager. He expressed confidence that the tunnel drilling works which are going at 2.5 metres per day will complete within the stipulated time. The General Manager elaborated that though there were difficulties due to soil condition in the execution of tunnel works, they were overcome with technical assistance from RITES and RDSO. He expressed optimism that the Bidar-Gulbarga new rail line will be completed by March 2017.
