Shri Mallikarjun Karge seen laying the foundation stone for a tunnel on Gulbarga-Bidar New Railway line at Margutti on 28.10.13
Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Railways laid the foundation stone for construction of a 1.5 Km long Tunnel at Margutti on Bidar-Gulbarga new rail line today (28thOctober, 2013) at a function held at Margutti Cross, Gulbarga District.
Dr. N. Dharam Singh, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Bidar and Ex. Chief Minister of Karnataka; Shri Qamar-ul-Islam, Hon’ble Minister for Municipalitlies & Local Bodies etc. Govt. of Karnataka; Dr. Sharaprakash Patil, Hon’ble Minster for Medical Education, Govt. of Karnataka and Shri Basavaraj Patil Sedam, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, other public representatives, Shri A.K. Mital, General Manager, SCR and other senior SCR officials were present on the occasion.
Addressing the large gathering at the function, Shri Mallikarjun Karge said that the 110 Km Bidar-Gulbarga new railway line are rapidly progressing and the laying of foundation stone for a Tunnel at Margutti to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 60/- Cr. would help expedite the project. once completed, the Bidar-Gulbarga new railway line will fulfil the long cherished aspirations of the people of Bidar and Gulbarga Districts to have direct rail connection between these two prominent and historic cities of north Karnataka, he said.
While delivering his welcome address, Shri A.K. Mital, General Manager, SCR said that necessary rock and soil investigations were undertaken for the tunnel and agency for executing the work had also been finalised with a target to complete the tunnel with in 18 months. The Tunnel would have ballastless track and sufficient height to have electrified traction on the section in future as per need, he added.Other Public representatives also spoke on the occasion.
