Bidar Airport FINALLY got permission to launch civil aviation.

Hubballi-Ankola rail route gets green signal

The Union Ministry for Environment and Forests has given a clean chit to the pending Hubballi-Ankola railway line and instructed the Railways to take up the project soon, said the Minister for Basic Infrastructure Development and Information and Public Relation Roshan Baig on Monday.

The project was opposed as it was feared that it would affect natural forest areas and its biodiversity there.

A committee to study and survey the areas was set up under head scientist T.V. Ramachandran of Indian Institute of Science.

The Minister had come to Ankola to inaugurate a district minority conference held there. Hubballi –Ankola railway line will promote connectivity between north Karnataka and coastal line and would certainly boost exim (export and import), activities, he said.

The tender process was under progress to develop Tadadi and Belekeri ports in a public-private partnership model and a team has gone to Gujrat to study more about the model.

The airports at Hubballi and Kalaburagi will be developed as an aircraft base .

Permission has also been granted to launch civil aviation at Bidar airport which was mainly meant for defense services earlier, the Minister said.

Former MLA Umesh Bhat was present on the occasion.

Soon Bidar may have good road connectivity.

National highway division opened in Kalaburagi

The State government has established a separate division of National Highways in Gulbarga Division to hasten the process of execution of national highways and other Centrally-assisted road projects, including inter-State connectivity road projects in the region.

The division would have jurisdiction over national highways and other road projects in Gulbarga, Yadgir and Bidar district, according to Basavaraj Hiremath, who took over as Executive Engineer, Gulbarga Division, National Highways, a few days ago.

Speaking to The Hindu in Kalaburagi city on Saturday, Mr. Hiremath said the new division has been established following the intervention of Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa. It would have jurisdictional control of over 190 km of National Highways in Bidar district, 277 km of existing and new national highways and inter-State connectivity roads in Gulbarga District; and 137 km of the new National Highway coming up in Yadgir district.

Besides close monitoring of execution of road projects, Mr. Hiremath said that the establishment of the division in Gulbarga division would end the delay in getting approvals for projects.

Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa said that there was also a proposal for the creation of an office of Chief Engineer office of the Public Works Department in Kalaburgi city, with jurisdictional coverage of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, which would help in getting sanctions for projects at the earliest.

Colours come to life in Bidar

Visitors looking at the paintings exhibited during the Chitra Kala Jatrein Bidar on Sunday.

Art lovers had a field day in Bidar on Sunday as artists laid out mattresses on the foot paths near Ambedkar Circle and began painting. They also exhibited their creations along the road leading to the City Municipal Council. They were participating in the first ever Chitra Kala Jatre organised by S.M. Pandit College of Fine Arts and Sunrise Association. The event is modelled on the Chitra Sante held in Bangalore.

Artists from the district were joined by those from neighbouring Kalaburagi and Yadgir and other States like Maharashtra and Telangana. Artists presented pencil drawings, portraits, landscapes, monuments, events, nature and wildlife. They were in classical, modern, expressionist and absurd styles. Prerana Ravikumar, a housewife, said she was spoilt for choice. “I was just looking for one painting of Lord Krishna for my living room. There are so many different paintings here that I don’t know which to pick,” she said. Fouzia Ahmed, an artist who had come from Kalaburagi, said she was enthused by the response. “I will come again next year,” said the painter who focuses on monuments. Sandip Patil, who teaches at Natural Fine Arts College, said youngsters were experimenting with themes, styles and images.
