Rs 500 crore agri package for Bidar: Byre Gowda

Bidar district will soon get Rs 500 crore as part of Union government’s ‘Agriculture Package’, said Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Krishi Utsava’ and Horticulture Mela at the Horticulture College near Shahar Hanuman Temple here on Sunday. The Centre has already released `29 crore under the package, he added.

‘Increase yield’

The minister said instead of demanding a higher price for agriculture produce, farmers should try to increase crop yield by adopting latest innovations.

He said, “Nowadays farmers are demanding higher price for their crops which is being opposed by consumers. Farmers have not reached even 50 per cent of their crop production capacity.”

Byre Gowda said the government has been trying to organise Krishi Mela in all districts so as to popularise the latest innovations in agriculture and pave way for spreading the knowledge of agriculture scientists and progressive farmers to all other farmers.

Justice to farmers

He said, “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has set up the Agriculture Commission for providing justice to the farming community.”

The commission has been allocated `1,500 crore. It will make recommendations to the Cabinet sub-committee regarding fixing of prices for various agriculture produce, he added.

Former chief minister and Bidar Lok Sabha member N Dharam Singh said Bidar has been neglected in all fields.

He alleged that the BJP MLAs and MLCs did not attend the mela due to Narendra Modi’s rally in Bangalore.

MLA Gurupadappa Nagamarpalli, Bhalki MLA Eshwar Khandre, Raichur Agriculture University Vice-chancellor Dr B V Patil, Bagalkot Horticulture University Vice-chancellor Dr S B Dandeen, Agriculture Director and Incharge Commissioner of Agriculture Dr G K Dharam Rajan, Water Shed Department Commissioner H G Shivanand Murthi, Deputy Commissioner P C Jaffer, Zilla Panchayat CEO Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, Superintendent of Police Thiyagarajan K, Veerannna Patil, Tadola Seer, Akbar Khan and others were present.
