Information at easy reach for passengers at Bidar bus-stand

Hi-tech tools that will help commuters have been installed at the bus-stand here.

P.B. Ramamurthy, Principal Secretary, Transport, and chairman of the North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) board, and other officials inaugurated a computerised announcement system, liquid crystal display (LCD) message boards and an SMS-based information system on Thursday.

Data on the operation of buses will be updated in real time and provided to passengers through the public address system and SMS service, Mr. Ramamurthy said.

NEKRTC managing director G.N. Shivamurthy said a library and reading room would be set up at the bus-stand.

Sleeper bus

Mr. Ramamurthy also flagged off a new sleeper bus to Bangalore, which will leave here at 6 p.m. and reach Bangalore at 6 a.m. It will return at 7 p.m. to reach Bidar at 7 a.m. the next day. NEKRTC plans to start another multi-axle bus between Bidar and Bangalore via Bellary.
