D. Devraj Urs, the late Chief Minister, was a leader who took bold decisions for the welfare of the poor, Bhagwant Khuba, MP, has said in Bidar on Thursday. He was speaking at the Devraj Urs centenary year celebrations organised by various departments and the district administration.
In the eight years that he was the Chief Minister, he strived for the overall development of the State with a special focus on the welfare of backward classes. He asked deprived classes to be self-reliant and develop a sense of dignity, he said.
Urs brought about laws to redistribute land among the landless, abolish bonded labour and improve the economic condition of the poor, the MP said.
Raghunath Malkapure, MLC, said Urs’s ideology continued to influence social welfare schemes across the country.
