Soon Bidar may have good road connectivity.

National highway division opened in Kalaburagi

The State government has established a separate division of National Highways in Gulbarga Division to hasten the process of execution of national highways and other Centrally-assisted road projects, including inter-State connectivity road projects in the region.

The division would have jurisdiction over national highways and other road projects in Gulbarga, Yadgir and Bidar district, according to Basavaraj Hiremath, who took over as Executive Engineer, Gulbarga Division, National Highways, a few days ago.

Speaking to The Hindu in Kalaburagi city on Saturday, Mr. Hiremath said the new division has been established following the intervention of Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa. It would have jurisdictional control of over 190 km of National Highways in Bidar district, 277 km of existing and new national highways and inter-State connectivity roads in Gulbarga District; and 137 km of the new National Highway coming up in Yadgir district.

Besides close monitoring of execution of road projects, Mr. Hiremath said that the establishment of the division in Gulbarga division would end the delay in getting approvals for projects.

Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa said that there was also a proposal for the creation of an office of Chief Engineer office of the Public Works Department in Kalaburgi city, with jurisdictional coverage of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, which would help in getting sanctions for projects at the earliest.
