Gulbarga University plans to start postgraduate courses in mathematics, commerce and several other disciplines at the PG centre as well as at a few government colleges in Bidar district next year, Syndicate member Maharudra Hugar has said.
He was speaking at the orientation programme for postgraduate students at the Government First Grade College here on Wednesday.
Gulbarga University has already started PG courses in 17 streams at various places in Bidar district. Admissions to 11 PG courses are available at the centre at Halahalli, near Bidar.
Six courses are offered at the government college in Bidar.
When the university starts other popular courses such as PG in mathematics, commerce and management, 90 per cent of the students from Bidar would not have to travel to Gulbarga, he said.
He also urged teachers to seek the university’s permission to guide students for doctoral studies. “This way, we can turn this college into a research centre,” he said.
The Hyderabad Karnataka Development Board was considering a proposal to release Rs. 10 lakh for repairing classrooms at the Bidar government college, he added.
