The State government has released Rs. 242.55 crore for construction of government first grade college buildings, additional classrooms and toilets in 30 districts.
Officials in the Higher Education Department told The Hindu that funds would be utilised for construction of 8,145 buildings, 14,680 additional rooms and 1,430 toilets in all districts of the State.
Minister for Higher Education C.T. Ravi has released Rs. 16.1 crore for construction of 500 buildings, 1,025 additional rooms and 85 toilets in Chikmagalur. Incidentally, Mr. Ravi was elected to the Assembly from Chikmagalur constituency.
The highest amount was sanctioned to Mysore districts: Rs. 21.15 crore for construction of 1,250 buildings, 785 additional rooms and 80 toilets, while the least was sanctioned to Bijapur: Rs. 2.3 crore for construction of 200 classrooms and 30 toilets.
Funds sanctioned to other districts are: Bangalore Urban: Rs.: 11.55 crore, Bangalore Rural: Rs. 3.5 crore, Ramanagaram: Rs. 5.25 crore, Chickballapur: Rs. 7.45 crore, Kolar: Rs. 9.55 crore, Tumkur: Rs. 12.05 crore, Chamarajanagar: Rs. 8.95 crore, Hassan: Rs. 9.9 crore, Mandya: Rs. 8.45 crore, Shimoga: Rs. 5.1 crore, Davangere: Rs. 10.35 crore, Chitradurga: Rs. 8.65 crore, Dakshina Kannada: Rs. 11.7 crore, Udupi: Rs. 10.4 crore, Kodagu: Rs. 3.5 crore, Dharwad: Rs. 7.55 crore, Gadag: Rs. 4.85 crore, Belgaum: Rs. 13.65 crore, Bagalkote: Rs. 2.35 crore, Uttara Kannada: Rs. 8.65 crore, Haveri: Rs. 8.65 crore, Gulbarga: Rs. 6.5 crore, Yadgir: Rs. 2.75 crore, Koppal: Rs. 3.35 crore, Raichur: Rs. 5.2 crore, Bellary: Rs. 3.85 crore and Bidar: Rs. 9.3 crore, according to officials.]
