There are some interesting facts about some candidates in the fray for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections in Bidar district.
Visually challenged Dilip Kadode is the Janata Dal (Secular) taluk panchayat candidate from Mandakanahalli in Bidar taluk. He is trained in classical vocal singing and tabla. He runs the Ashadeep School for the Blind in Bidar. JD (S) MLA Bandeppa Kashempur says Mr. Kadode's enthusiasm appealed to him. “His energy will inspire my party workers,” he said.
Two sisters are fighting polls against each other in Ghat Boral in Humnabad taluk. Neelamma Mallikarjun of the JD (S) and Revamma Baburao of the Bharatiya Janata Party are the daughters of the former member of Parliament and BJP patriarch late Ramachandra Veerappa.
Of the 31 members in the zilla panchayat, only five are seeking re-election. Four of them are women.
Meenakshi Sangram, Jyoti Charan Rathod, Kasturibai Boudhe, Sanju Kalekar and Yallamma Tukaram are testing their fortunes again.
Mr. Kalekar and Ms. Tukaram decided to contest as Independents as they were not nominated by the JD (S) again.
Amrit Chimkod defeated Babu Malkapur in Mannalli in 2005 zilla panchayat polls. This time, Mr. Chimkod's wife Rama is contesting against Mr. Malkapur's wife Rekha in Malegaon.
