The XIX Commonwealth Games VIPs and dignitaries will carry home mementos hand crafted in Bidri art (BIDAR).

The XIX Commonwealth Games being held in Delhi next month have a Bidar connection. The VIPs and dignitaries visiting the games will carry home mementos hand crafted in Bidri art.
National award-winning Bidri artisan Mohammad Abdul Rauf and his son Mohammad Abdul Bari have crafted 850 mementos of two distinct designs for the games. “Every guest at the Delhi games will carry a piece of Bidar back with him,” Mr. Rauf says proudly.
The designs chosen by the Common Wealth Games Committee were that of an inflorescence and a pattern of lines emanating from the rising sun.
They were emailed to Mr. Rauf who prepared a master mould and sent it for approval.

Japanese volunteers reach out to house poor families

In a humane gesture, 40 volunteers from Japan attached to Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Resource Centre Bangalore under Global Village Programme extended their assistance in constructing houses for poor families, here in Tadlapur village of Bidar taluk.

Bidar: Humnabad gets cold storage plant for fruits

An integrated cold storage plant aimed at increasing exports of fruits from Bidar district is expected to come up in Humnabad in the next 18 months.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up the cold storage plant at a cost of Rs. 8.04 crore was signed between Karnataka State Agricultural Produce Processing and Export Corporation Ltd. (KAPPEC) and Agricultural and Processing Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) here on Friday.
The plant includes pack house, washing, grading and waxing line, besides two pre-cooling units of six tonnes capacity, four export cold rooms of 50 tonnes capacity each, commercial cold storage comprising three rooms of 300 tonnes and a reefer van.

NHRC orders inquiry into demolition drive in Bidar

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the State Government to conduct an inquiry into the demolition of houses and shops during the road-widening drive in Bidar over the past few years, to see if private property was destroyed illegally.
Admitting a petition by Bidar-based Citizens Rights Protection Committee, a pro bono organisation, the NHRC has directed the district administration to associate the complainant in the inquiry.
Appeal
The committee, in turn, has appealed to the affected people to produce documents proving their ownership of the shops and houses lost.
The date for the hearing has been set for September 27 at the Bidar Deputy Commissioner's office.

Soon CCTVs will be Installed on Bidar heritage sites

Bowing to pressure from the people, the state department of archaeology and museums prepared a list of heritage cities in the state, which includes Gulbarga, Bidar, Bijapur, Srirangapattana, Mysore and Kittur in Belgaum district. Besides, the department also decided to launch a `heritage walk' in these cities by the month-end to create awareness among the people about the protection of monuments.
